It’s hard to wrap my head around the fact that our country seems to thrive off keeping us sick and dependent on a system that does not prioritize our well-being. But the sad truth is they don’t care. It’s cheaper for them to poison us. America is run like a business, and we are simply employees. The food, the products, Big Pharma, it’s all a cash grab. I digress... but not really.
Oral Care | Herbal Alternative
One of the simplest and most powerful changes we’re making is to our dental care routine. A healthy mouth is essential, and more and more studies are showing how closely oral hygiene is connected to your overall health.
It’s fascinating to think about how ancient African civilizations cleaned their teeth using raw plants and twigs like peppermint, myrrh, licorice, and neem. The Inca civilization didn’t even brush their teeth, yet they were 95% cavity-free. Meanwhile, modern Western societies pour billions into dental care, and still, 90% of the population has cavities.
So what’s really up?
The Truth About Store Bought Toothpaste
Today’s commercial toothpaste is loaded with fluoride, synthetics, and abrasive ingredients. Dentists may swear by them, but those ingredients often cause more harm than good; starting with the calcification of your pineal gland, also known as your "third eye” which allows you to see things from a spiritual lens.
I remember one day, in a rush, I bought a tube of conventional toothpaste just to get us by. I noticed it made me feel hungrier than usual. The hunger pangs were intense and constant. That was the last time I bought it. Never again.
Even the more natural “Hello” brand, which we used for a while, turned out to contain 493 PPB of Lead, yes, even the children’s version. That was the last time. As MAMA of the house, it was decided that we are taking matters into our own hands.
It Gets Deeper: Tooth Health Starts from Within
Tooth decay isn’t just a problem of the mouth, it’s a full body issue. It’s often the result of an acidic, mucus-forming diet that’s low in real nutrients. When your body is missing vital minerals like calcium, magnesium, or potassium, it starts pulling those nutrients from other areas that contain it like your teeth and bones leading to cavities and bone loss.
Your teeth and gums need nourishment. Calcium and Phosphorus go hand in hand in bodily function. A natural, whole-foods diet rich in calcium and phosphorus in a 1:1 ratio is a good foundation.
What’s interesting is each of our 32 teeth corresponds to the 32 vertebrae in our spine—and even deeper, to specific organs. For example:
Incisors (front teeth): Respiratory and circulatory organs
Canines: Stomach, liver, spleen, and pancreas
Premolars: Intestinal and excretory regions
Molars/Wisdom Teeth: Reproductive system and colon
So when a specific tooth begins to decay, it's often a signal that the associated organ may also be experiencing stress, deterioration or weakness. This is why healing must be holistic.

Because water-based toothpaste shelf life will not be long compared to oil based, we are going with an oil based toothpaste, which last for 3 weeks on average when stored properly.
Dry Ingredients:
4 tsp baking soda (and/or swap 1 tbsp with bentonite clay for gentler polishing/removing plaque and stains)
2 teaspoons fine sea salt (optional- if you dont want salty tooth paste) (natural abrasive + preservative)
2 teaspoon Bentonite Clay- contains neg. Ions, use a wooden spoon to mix (Detoxifying, gentle polish, helps remineralize)
2 teaspoons neem powder (gum health, antibacterial)
1 teaspoon clove powder (pain relief, anti-inflammatory)
1 teaspoon Ceylon cinnamon powder (antibacterial, anti fungal, flavor. warming properties)
Optional: 1 teaspoon activated charcoal (teeth whitening, toxin-absorbing, please be aware that charcoal can wear down enamel and increase sensitivity if used daily)
Wet Ingredients:
1 cup organic coconut oil (or MCT oil) (base for the paste, rich in antimicrobial benefits)
24 drops rosemary essential oil (natural antibacterial. Use what you have 48 drops total or split them up between multiple oils)
24 drops peppermint or spearmint essential oil (optional) (breath freshener + flavor)
Instructions:
Combine dry ingredients together
If solid, gently warm oil over fire until soft (not hot) to dry ingredients.
Store in an air tight container in cool, dark place for up to 3 weeks.
The most important thing to note is making your own is being aware of the possible bacteria contamination of dipping your tooth brush directly into the paste. So what you can do is remove the paste from the jar using a small scoop or spatula to use as needed to maximize the shelf life of your product.
Bentonite clay and baking soda are both mild abrasives and can break down your enamel if excessively used. If you don't want to use an abrasive, coconut oil is just fine for THIS recipe.
